The National Bed Federation (NBF) has launched a new free ‘best practice’ guide for claims relating to chemicals in products.
The guidance focuses on understanding the chemicals used in mattresses, as well as certain terminology and other areas that can be challenging.
Tristine Hargreaves, executive director of the National Bed Federation: “This guide is designed to help answer some commonly asked questions, clarify widespread misunderstandings, and provide practical advice for mattress manufacturers, suppliers, and retailers in the UK and Irish bed industry.”
The guidance, the NBF covers transparency on product labelling, sustainability and green claims, and chemical content. It also outlines how to gain further understanding, as well as a helpful frequently asked questions section, including queries that were raised from the industry.
Working together with industry experts, the NBF guidance provides a detailed explanation of terms associated with chemicals, fire-retardant materials (FR) and other product labelling terms.
“The claims made on a product can influence a consumer’s decision to purchase, and therefore all claims need to be accurate and verifiable,” added Tristine.
NBF members can also use this guidance with the existing NBF Guide to Greenwashing, which is designed to help avoid misleading claims.
Download the ‘NBF Best Practice Guidance – claims made relating to chemicals in products’. The guidance is also available on the Marketing Support and Sustainability Resources pages.
